Timber

Emma Staniforth | 3 March 2017

Trees/forests account for approximately 31% of the land mass on our planet. We all know the vital role that trees play in our survival, providing us with oxygen, soaking up carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, creating homes (for people and wildlife) and resources for our everyday lives, from the paper we write on to the timber used in our sauna relaxation.  Despite our knowledge regarding the importance of trees, deforestation is still a massive global problem, with trees been harvested at such a rate that harvested trees massively outweigh new tree growth (some 46-58 thousand square miles lost per year – equivalent to 48 football pitches per minute!) (www.worldwildlife.org/threats/deforestation).

For this reason, Inca UK only use timbers farmed from sustainable sources. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international organization, established since 1993 to govern and promote the responsible management of forests throughout the world. The FSC logo guarantees that trees harvested are replaced or allowed to regenerate naturally.  (www.fsc-uk.org). Not only do the FSC help to protect the world’s forests, but they also ensure that through the harvesting of trees and forests, the local indigenous people and their rights are also protected.

So there you have it, you can now fully relax and enjoy your Inca sauna with the knowledge that all timbers that have gone into its’ manufacture have been farmed from sustainable sources, with the local inhabitants (both human and animal) interests and safety well looked after.
